New Communications Technology

The new wave of technological advancements has completely changed the way a person is now able to communicate. In previous years, a land line telephone was the most rapid way to convey information. Then came the fax machine for transmitting documents. Both of these communication methods have decreased in usage as the Internet and mobile phones have ushered in a completely new era of data and communication sharing. With these different methods, a person now has 24 hour access to all of their communication needs from nearly any location in the world. The first major change came with the invention of the mobile phone and the ability to make phone calls without needing a fixed line. However, the Internet has proven to be the biggest game changer, with smart phones being able to incorporate both phone calls and online communication. Email messages are now the most frequently used method of disseminating information, as a large group of people can all be reached at the same time. With the latest generation of smart phones, a person has easy availability to check their email and use other communication methods regardless of where they are. It is these new smart phones and online social network that are paving the way for the modern age of communication. With the social networks, a person can see status updates from all of their friends, thus monitoring what is going on in their social life. The majority of these social networks are being integrated into the smart phones, meaning that a person can check the status of their friends, have an online text chat, or even a video call by pressing a few buttons. The current trend is building towards the singular point where a person will have all of these communication techniques bundled in a single device that will keep them connected to their friends, colleagues, and family at all times.
