Technology and Our Health
With new technology keeping a person attached to a computer or mobile device for long periods of time, it is important to understand both the health benefits and disadvantages that this technology is bringing. There is clearly a good and bad side to this rapid advancement and a person will need to be familiar with all of the effects before using these new technologies on a constant basis.
The good side of technology is that it can be used in a way that directly contributes to a better overall health. There are applications that monitor what a person eats and adds suggestions for improving the diet. In addition, the modern advancements in hospital equipment is leading to better treatment for illnesses and a better diagnosis of health issues. Furthermore, many pharmaceutical companies are using the latest medical software to analyze different compounds and create medications that are solving some of the most difficult health issues known to man. However, there is another side to technology that is not so pleasant.
At the other end of the spectrum are the problems that are caused by the constant use of technology. It is no secret that people are spending a growing percentage of their time in sedentary positions, often seated in front of a computer screen with bad posture and limited movement. There are physical and emotional problems that can develop from this habit. The long hours spent at a computer desk have been proven to contribute to obesity, back problems, and bad posture, all of which will have an adverse reaction to a person's health. In addition, the lack of face to face contact with other people is stunting the emotional growth of people who spend so much time with these modern advancements. Instead of children learning how to engage in actual discourse, the trend is that they prefer to stay inside and communicate online.
